Natural Charcoal

Invitation to Create with Found Charcoal

Yesterday we drove into Angeles National Forrest. It was the first time in a while. Just for short walk, as the fires devastated the area we like to hike into for camping.

Rémy ran down the trail, picking up rocks and sticks. Papa carried him back up in his giant backpack. Mama collected pieces of burnt wood. Forrest charcoal.

This morning I took what I collected and put together a little invitation to create. It was his first charcoal drawing, and I couldn’t have picked a better material for the introduction. The sticks were easy to grip and gave weight to his efforts.

In the end, there is something interesting there. It’s intense, chaotic, and still smells slightly of smoke.
